Extra Donations!

A couple who was in my exercise class donated several cd's for me to sell to raise money for my initiatives! $45 was received from one generous person who bought them all so I didn't have to go through the hastle of selling them one by one.

Nonni made a cash donation of $60 and one of my dance students made a cash donation of $10!

Yay for generosity!!! :D

Nearing The End

What a gorgeous day! The sun was shining brightly, the temperatures were warm and still many people came out. Amazing! 4 under poverty level people showed up and approximately 21 people came out to enjoy the soup! There were about 5 new people.

Una came and helped me, providing her British humour and fun loving way to the customers. I heated up the left over Beef Rice soup. I made vegan cauliflour soup and chicken noodle soup as extras. I just don't want to have too many soups left over as next week is the last week until the Fall or possibly forever if GOD calls me to do something else for His children! Many people are disappointed that this will be coming to an end, and are trying to get me to have something else... like salads... for lunches on Wednesdays. I'm not sure that this is in the plans as making something other than soup will cost more and look like it is providing less. It is also perishable, which would add to the cost as well. We shall see what actually transpires! His will be done, not mine!

Warmer Weather

We had a very gorgeous day this past Wednesday, April 16th! Even still, we did have good attendance at the Soup's On! 3 under poverty level people came out and approximately $56 was collected for soup (which means approximately 28 bowls were sold) and approximately $7.50 was donated! I say approximately because I didn't do the tickets seeing we were running like crazy and there was only two of us, so I don't know if the numbers of soup sold were less and more dontations were made.

I decided that the Old Senior Centre will be our area for the Soup's On for the last weeks. It serves to be benefitial in many ways. I can heat up the soup on the stove that is in there, dishes can be washed in the double sink, the counter can hold the crock pots nicely and it is very convenient to the dishes which we borrow the use of! Even though it may be a little cozy for seating, it proves to be a nice location for now.

Nonni was amazing and made a neat soup that looked like chili but was called something Texan. It went over quite well! No leftovers. Nonni also donated her time (or, should I say, our bosses let her donate some of her paid time) and helped me serve soup, buns and water as well as collecting the payments for the soup.

I made up some beef and brown rice soup (for Renzo and those others that don't like their veggies!), and the last of the onion, split pea & ham, and vegan cabbage were used up. Looks like I will be really busy next week making 4 new soups!!!

The end of April will be the close of this venture until the cold weather comes... or, possibly perminantly if GOD calls me to different pastures. :) We will see what the future holds!

April is Here!!!

What a beautiful day! The sun was gorgeous and the temperatures warmed up in the afternoon.

A little bit of a glitch happened as for the room that is used for Soup's On! I came in and unlocked the door and staring back at me were a dozen or so people! Shocked, I asked them when they were in until, and they said "All day." Agh!!! I went to see my boss and he suggested other rooms that weren't available until 11:30 or so, which would have been no good. Then we talked about the "kitchen" area in the old senior centre. I wasn't too pleased because it is very squishy in there, but I said it would do.

As it turned out, it was VERY squishy, BUT because it has a stove and a sink area, it was awesome! We didn't have to treck back and forth to the kitchen and could heat up the soup right then and there! That is also where the bowls, plates and cutlery come from, so it made that part really easy, too! What a blessing! Thank you, GOD!

My co-worker, Nonni, came by with a crock pot of Ham and Pea with Mint soup. It was cold and was in the middle of making some Chicken Rice soup, so I suggested we put the "crock" part on the element so the soup would warm up. It sits in the heat of the crock pot, so it should be okay, right? WRONG!!!! Oh man. I felt SO terrible. It cracked the bottom of the crock. BAH. Poor Nonni. It was her mom's (who passed away last year). AND it was HUGE!!! About 6 to 8 litres I would think. Anyone have an extra-large crock pot that they aren't using anymore? :(

Approximately 29 people bought soup and 4 under poverty level people came out today. $85.50 (give or take $5 - I think some was from the petty cash but I forgot to write down how much I took...) was taken in today.

The soups I had made were: Chicken Rice, Broccoli Parmesan, and Vegan/Gluten Free Cabbage with Vegetables. We had Nonni's Ham and Pea with Mint and Rie's Dutch Vegetable with Noodles and Meatballs as well.

4 more Soup's On! and we are done for the season!
